How to download the entire Wikipedia and access it offline?

Wikipedians can now download the entirety of the English Wikipedia – all 9.7GB of it – and access it offline at any time you want without the Internet connection.

We all know about Wikipedia. It is the biggest free online encyclopedia. Wikipedia is a collaboratively edited, multilingual, free Internet encyclopedia supported by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Wikipedia's 30 million articles in 287 languages, including over 4.4 million in the English Wikipedia, are written collaboratively by volunteers around the world. It is the largest and most popular general reference work on the Internet.

In order to access the Wikipedia you must have an internet connection. This article tells you how to download the entire Wikipedia on your PC and then use it, of course, without any internet connection.

Download Wikipedia:


Follow these few guidelines and you will have all the Wikipedia stored in your PC and access it offline. 


First you need to download the Wikipedia database. It is quite large, about 18.2 GB, so it may take hours or days depending on your internet connection speed. For downloading Wikipedia go to http://kiwix.org/wiki/Main_Page and click on Download Wikipedia in right top corner.




Start your BitTorrent client and grab a copy of the 9.7GB file (.torrent link, other languages download options). You can also download content packages directly from within Kiwix using its library feature.



Now extract the file you downloaded in first step in a folder. After extracting you can see the folder name "data" inside which another folder with name "content". Inside this folder there will be file with extension .zimaa. You need to open this file in kiwix.




In Kiwix select File ,the select open file and select the .zimaa file.


Now Wikipedia  will be opened inside the kiwix browser and you can access any information by searching it in search box.
